Estimates suggest that the royalties are around USD$15 per unit.  It's also 
true that a large number of China-sourced units do not pay this (I've been 
waiting for legal action against the importers of these units, but it's not 
happened yet).  It's hard to see, given the wide availability of players in 
the USD$30-$40 range, how they could possibly factor royalties in and still 
turn a profit!
