My supervisor did a decopile on one of his classfiles, the code looked 
ok and it even recompiled ok. We didn't test the program though but I 
guess it would work. Another friend of mine found an applet from the 
agency that keep track of land, make maps and so on. That applet even 
had comments in it, so he redid it to make some own searches against 
their database.

Anyway I wouldn't be surprised if the VPX code actually would recompile. 
Another nice thing is that the sizes of the types are known, one could 
correlate the tables/variables/functions against the VP3 code and lots 
of other stuff to get a better understanding of VP5. To bad VP5 isn't 
used more so a RE effort would be justified.
