MP3 Decoder - poor quality bass

I'm not sure if this is the right mailing list to post this to.  If not,
I apologize.

Has anyone else noticed large problems with xine's bass playback with
mp3's?  Very low frequency tones sound scratchy and weak.  It can't be a
problem with alsa I think, because playing the song in Foobar2000
through Wine doesn't exhibit the same audio artifacts.  The specific
song that demonstrates this is "Basement Jaxx - Good Luck."
