I suspect that xine produces an error message because its internal libdvdnav doesn't have the unicodes fixes. Once I add those fixes, xine fails more mysteriously. MythTV dumps you back to the menus while MPlayer and VLC simply crash when you try to open the disk. At least Xine produces an error message! There are actually quite a lot of commercial movie and TV episode disks which do not play for various reasons. I am not prepared to work on that part of the code at the present time but I wonder if it would be worth posting references to disks which do not play for the benefit of the people working in that area. Perhaps they already know about enough disks to keep them busy. I should have been keeping a log of this but I haven't.
