xine-ui --video=none broken

Hello,
The help usage message shows none as possible video output-driver.
But unfortunately The source shows that none can't work without a
running x display because the x connection happens before validating
cmdline parameters.
It would be nice to get the none driver work but I am not an expert in
xine-ui's sources :-(.
