Ok, so the issue was on my side. I cloned a fresh checkout, generated a 
new tarball and all is well now. Maybe an issue after the recent hg 
troubles you encountered ? Anyway, sorry for the noise and thanks for 
the help :-)

I'd still like to get an official release, but that's a different matter...
