If nothing else, you could just make a startup script that symlinks 
~/.lircrc to either, say, lirc.dvd or lirc.vcd, based on what you pass 
to the script, and then executes xine. Or you could create two start 
scripts called xine.dvd and xine.vcd, in which case you wouldn't need 
the command line argument.
