Hi,
I wrote in the other day about a problem with new versions of xine
not providing sound when playing DVDs. This was happening on multiple
Gentoo machines. The initial fix was to make sure I set the Gentoo USE
flags a52 and dts. At that point I got sound on one machine, but as it
turns out I didn't get sound on a second machine.
This evening I discovered the root cause of the problem. xine is
producing sound but this revision of xine is sending the sound to a
different device. The machine in question has two cards:
dragonfly ~ # cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [ICH5 ]: ICH4 - Intel ICH5
Intel ICH5 with ALC655 at 0xfa081000, irq 21
1 [default ]: USB-Audio - USB Audio CODEC
Burr-Brown from TI USB Audio CODEC
at usb-0000:00:1d.1-1, full s
dragonfly ~ #
In a complete change to previous versions I find that xine is now
sending sound to the USB-Audio device and not the PC's ICH5 sound
card.
It's possible that maybe some Alsa change recently marked the USB
device as default. If that happened I don't know when the change
occurred.
Anyway, how do I tell xine to use card 0 instead of card 1? I don't
seem to see how to do that reading xine --help.
Thanks,
Mark
