I reported something similar concerning dvb usage:

It's specifically NOT xine-lib, as things are fine with kaffeine (using the 
same library).

It's xine-ui definitely.
There's been lots of rant about that, but noone touches it - what a pity!
Everybody's dancing around the hot pap here.........

My advice:
Take either kaffeine or mplayer - that should work for now.
