MP3 plays fine in xmms, not in xine (so no amarok)

I've clearly done something bad to some of the mp3s in my library, such that amarok using the xine backend (or even xine right on the command line) won't play the mp3 correctly. All I get is odd digital noise. They play fine in xmms or rhythmbox. The particular mp3s I'm having trouble with probably have an odd pedigree, where I ripped them from Creative's software on windows, transferred to my Zen, and then over to my laptop (with gnomad2) once I'd moved to Fedora. Here are the particulars: xine-lib-extras-nonfree-1.1.10.1-1.lvn8 xine-lib-1.1.10.1-1.fc8 xine-0.99.5-1.lvn8 xmms-1.2.10-36.fc7 rhythmbox-0.11.3-7.fc8 gstreamer-0.10.15-1.fc8 I can send an example mp3 to somebody if they want to verify, but I'm loathe to spam the list with 8MB of Swedish heavy metal, as much as I may like it. I think I've included enough information, but please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
