Updating problem

Hi all

Please bear with me - there is a preamble, but it is relevant. Also I
am fairly new to Linux and am really struggling with this issue. I have
managed to get over most other difficulties one encounters with Linux.

I am using Opensuse 10.3 on a Dell Dimension 9200 witn a Intel dual core
2.4ghz CPU.

I have been trying for many months to get TV using every different
package I can find. Initially I was on Suse10.1 and got nowhere. Then
I bought a Pinnacle dvb card and upgraded to Opensuse 10.3 after which
Kaffeine could scan the channels and find 19 stations. Yippee!! I
thought. Too soon. Every time I clicked on the DVB button kaffeine
crashed with the SIGTERM error. I go to the Kaffeine website which says
that for my version of Kaffeine (0.8.6) I should have xine-lib 1.1.9
(1.1.10.1recommended). So I download the tarball for 1.1.10.1 and
unpack it and configure it. I then get the following error -
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No X11 output plugins will be built.

For some reason, the requirements for building the X11 video
output plugins are not met. That means, that you will NOT be
able to use the resulting xine-lib to watch videos in a window
on any X11-based display (e.g. your desktop).

If this is not what you want, provide the necessary X11 build
dependencies (usually done by installing a package called
XFree86-devel or similar) and run configure again.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now I cannot run xine, kaffeine or amarok!! I don't know whether to try
and find these X11 packages and install them - in case I undermine other
things.

I am inclined to remove the update but cannot find how to do so.

Anyone any ideas??

many thanks

Jim Dickin
