the clean, technical solution would be for Freevo to use the xine- 
library instead of xine-ui. Freevo would have full control over focus,  
windows, etc.
if this is not an option, maybe "I must select the freevo process"  
could be automated - maybe there is an X11 tool to do this.

that xine-ui as a video player gets the focus on startup looks quite  
natural to me. :)
