only arts let video and audio be in sync

Hello, using xine (or kaffeine) only arts as audio driver keeps video and audio in sync. If I use alsa as audio driver (or jack with alsa), the sounds gets out of sync or is out of sync at the beginning. Is this a known behaviour or do I have a misconfiguration of alsa?
