The website http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Xine indicates to use
w_scan; however, when I tried to get the version of the 20080815 tar, I
ran:

tar xfj w_scan-20080815.tar.bz2 && cd $SOURCEDIR

and I got:

tar: w_scan-20080815.tar.bz2: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors

Again, I'm very new to linux and I would appreciate additional guidance
with installing w_scan so that I can get xine tv to work.

Regards,

Juan

I demand that Juan Collao may or may not have written...

Well, yes. That's more or less guaranteed. The text following that scan
command on the previously-mentioned linuxtv wiki page hints at why...
