I'd be interested in knowing also but I don't think it's had any real
development work done in at least 6-7 years.

I finally had enough problems about 3 years ago that I switched to using
VLC which works fine for my needs but I have a soft spot for xine from the
old days.

I suspect the original project is pretty much gone at this point. Someone
took over the 'home page' duties here:

http://xinehq.de/

but there haven't been a lot of updates.

Maybe someone in the know will respond but maybe not. looking at xine-user
you'll see how dead it's become:
