Functionality regression in 0.99.12 (ability to have multiple players open)

I just up to 0.99.12 from 0.99.11 and a "feature" (perhaps the developers
consider it a "bug" and therefor "fixed it) was removed.   I often open two
or more xine players to play different streams at once.   This worked fine
until the above update now when I open the second (or higher) stream from
command line (or in this case xfce menu) it replaces the first stream with
the second.  THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANT (I want them to play side by side).

I tried playing with various settings and even looking at some of the
source code and am totally lost on how to get this functionality to work.
The closed I came was disabling XLockDisplay but that only worked from the
command line and often left the video/audio system unusable after exit.
