YV12 decoding

Hello XVID-developers,

I hope, this is the right mailing-list for this
topic...
as you might know, sh0dan developed a version of
avisynth supporting YV12, and modified a VirtualDub
version, which natively supports MPEG2 input, in a
way, that it can pass YV12 data to the video codec.
For using it, one has to install a codec, which
"claims" being able to decode (raw) YV12 streams, as
virtual dub doesn't do it itself yet. otherwise you
get an error message "Couldn't locate decompressor for
format 'YV12' (unknown)" - even if XVID is installed.
well, XVID doesn't "claim" to do so, that's why one
has to install DivX5 (hmmm...) in order to use the
preview function of this virtual dub mod, because
DivX5 actually doesn't only "claim" so but actually
does decode the (raw) YV12 stream.
another variant has been done by sh0dan - he used a
"hacked" version of xvid, which then "claimed" that
it's capable of decoding YV12 streams, but actually
doesn't do so in preview. that way, virtualdub accepts
the input, passes the data to xvid codec, but the
preview just shows black frames. Nic and Koepi also
included this hack into their builds, and they're
working charmingly, except for the missing preview
(which admittedly isn't THAT important).
sh0dan stated, that the needed functions are basically
already there, so my question is, would it be
painlessly possible to modify xvid that way, that it
always decodes (raw) YV12 streams and reports it to
virtualdub "upon request" ? Or maybe at least include
this hack into CVS ? I'd love to be independant from
DivX5, and still have a mighty fast compression
without any color conversions.
Sorry for my bad explanation, I hope you understand a
little of what I'm trying to point at. You might read
about this issue on the related thread in doom9's
forum.

P.S.: And a big THANK YOU for your OUTSTANDING codec !!!
