Linux - XviD codec - properly installed? - AVIFILE doesn't find!

Hello!

My problem is following:
I downloaded, compiled and installled xvid codec 1.0.0beta. But I am not 
sure whether it is installed properly.

Two things:
MPlayer compilation (CVS from 2003-12-03) finds it. Nice :)
AVIFILE compilation (CVS from same date) does NOT find it.

Maybe this should be discussed in an other ML, but since there is no 
avifile ML out there (which I could find) and it isn't clear to me, 
whether xvid is installed properly, I put this question here.

Any ideas?
