mencoder and "vop not coded"

Hello,

I've seen the thread
http://edu.bnhof.de/pipermail/xvid-devel/2004-January/003940.html
about the "vop not coded" message. To "solve" this,
I'm using packed=0 in xvid4.cfg for transcode.
However, when I try to do the same with mencoder, it
doesn't seem to work. Did I miss something?

I'm using
-xvidencopts
bitrate=$BITRATE:pass=1:vhq=2:qpel=1:packed=0
(and pass=2 for pass 2, obviously)
