Be aware that the encoding rules are very specific to SIP. An encoder for 
HTTP will not perform the proper transformations.

I agree that there are slippery details here, but that is IMHO *exactly* 
what the stack should be hiding from the application!
(Same applies e.g. to escaping of '"' and '\' characters in quoted strings 
like the display name. I'm willing to bet that most applications that 
currently allow the user to enter this somewhere  - e.g. in an input field 
in the GUI - get this wrong)
