Reasonably big monitors have finally become the most common class of
desktop computer screen, dethroning the 1024x768 resolution that was
long the target for web design.

Deadline to save $200 on advance registration for Washington, DC:

Cut, Cut, Cut the Words
During the training course Writing for the Web 2: Presenting
Compelling Content in Amsterdam last month, one of the examples being
discussed was how to post announcements on Twitter.
An attendee correctly pointed out that my Tweet about the conference
registration deadline was too wordy. It=E2=80=99s harder to scan when I=
say
something like =E2=80=9CDeadline to save $200 on advance registration f=
or
Usability Week=E2=80=9D is such-and-such a date. Better to just say =E2=
=80=9CDeadline
to save $200 on Usability Week.=E2=80=9D The phrase =E2=80=9Cadvance re=
gistration=E2=80=9D is
feature-oriented language, not benefits. (The benefit being clearly
stated already in the form of the $200 savings.)
As a result of this discussion, I decided to change my Tweets, as you
will see if you check our Twitter feed on Thursday (@NNgroup).
I kept the slightly more wordy notice in this newsletter (see above),
in order not to be too abrupt. While email newsletters should be
concise, they should be more informative than Twitter postings.
