** Windows 8 Usability Research: Some Follow-Ups

My previous newsletter reporting our findings from user testing of Windows=
8 got a lot of attention.

* There were amazingly many misconceptions in the various Tweets and blo=
g postings I saw.
The most common was that we did a "review" or a "focus group." Neither.
This was behavioral user testing, where we observed users - one at a time=
- as they attempted
to use Windows 8 (some on a PC, some on a Surface tablet).
* Some commentators even claimed that I'm biased because I used to work at=
Apple. False.
Two of my colleagues did work at Apple: Don Norman who was VP of advanced=
technology
and Bruce Tognazzini who was Apple's first human interface evangelist.
In the interest of full disclosure, I got a job offer from Apple in 1990 b=
ut I didn't accept it and
so never worked there. I really don't think any of this should preclude me=
from reporting on
user interface testing, whether we're testing Microsoft or Apple products.
