Jakob Nielsen's Alertbox for October 11 is now online at:

Summary:
The Washington Post's email newsletter earns a high usability score.
It's particularly good at setting users' expectations before they
subscribe, though the unsubscribe interface has some problems.

Las Vegas conference last week was very successful with the highest level
of registrations in the five years of our conference history.
The conference announcement board had many more job postings than resumes.
Exhibitors had recruiting booths. Clearly the usability field is booming
again -- something we also see in the consulting side of the business.
