Thumbnail images not showing on my popular post widget

I have been using blogger for about four months and some weeks back, I discovered that posts with videos as first images were the only popular post thumbnail images I could see. However, in rare cases I could see one or two regular images in the widget. This became a serious concern when I discovered that it was same when viewing form a mobile device such as a phone.
