Julian, as per my observations Blogger caches gadgets, and if there was an error with it (or couldn't access it before for some reason), it will show the same error message for a while. One workaround would be to change the name of gadget file every time you modify it. Hence when adding it by URL, point to the new file. Hope that helps.
