Newlines ignore in pre tags when posting by email

I have send a test email to blogger with the following content:

<pre>
    def somefunc():
        return 3.14
</pre>
<ul>
    <li>list 1</li>
    <li>list 1</li>
    <li>list 1</li>
    <li>list 1</li>
</ul>
<p><b>You should notice this!</b></p>

Everything works fine except the newline in the code snippet part is 
ignored.

How can I fix this?
