Differences Between Blogs and Widgets

I'm a newbie when it comes to Blogger development, so bear with me.

Is there a difference in the way blogs parse HTML code? I copy-pasted a
slideshow widget and made some modifications. It works fine in a test blog
I created. You can see it at http://bigblognameforyou.blogspot.com/

When I paste it into a client's blog (http://www.morethanbread.net/),
however, all I see is an empty white space with the prev and next buttons
on it. I suspect this is because the client's blog has been around for a
while, but I don't really know.

Also, for some reason, the client's blog automatically adds <br /> in the
widget HTML code whenever a line break occurs. This, though fixable, is
annoying, and moreover, it does not happen in the newer test blog. I've
looked up HTML auto-breaking in Blogger, but it seems it can only be
disabled or enabled for posts, and not widget code (though, for what it's
worth, the default setting for posts was "Use <br> tag.")

Anybody have a similar problem?
