research to support "more >" link placement?

Hello all, I could use a bit of help proving a rationale for a small
interaction detail that has some large design consequences.
Imagine a general interest magazine site.
Imagine a home page with many modular content areas -- some
headline/blurbs, some more graphically oriented.
Imagine a small module with a title/label in the upper right
("Featured") and a row of 3-5 thumbnail links, each with a short text
link immediately below it.
I'm dealing with a client who is insisting that the "more >"
contextual navigation link must always be placed and the bottom right
of a link module area, because he believes users "don't look up" once
they reach the bottom of a content area and will not see that they
have additional content options. My team has argued that consistent
placement and visual treatment are the important factors in creating
the behavior pattern that will allow users to recognize that there is
more content. Also, there are other factors which make the lower right
placement undesirable, like the required use of the bottom right area
for sponsorship links when present.
Can anyone cite examples or studies confirming/denying eyetracking
behavior, or even just anecdotal experience? I feel the client will
concede if we can take it out of the he said/we said space we are in
at the moment, but quoting interaction design books won't do it, and
he has no familiarity with the names of any experts in our field. He
is going from his gut, and we need to redirect his faith to another
source.
Thank you for any and all responses-
