Re: Visual cues for in-place editing?

We also use this way of differentiating editable fields from uneditable
fields. We use them for the kind of user account information that Bryan
described. We also use them in other situations, such as on an
application screen where the user selects a book's unique number and the
author's name, publication date, and other related data are then
displayed as text (with a label, such as "Author Name:" in front of each
uneditable field). Users have found it easier to immediately see the
difference this way, than when we showed uneditable fields as text boxes
that were  "grayed out."
