There is occasional activity in 
https://git.ffmpeg.org/gitweb/rtmpdump.git, but as you say, the last 
commit is over a year ago. However, there is little to change as the 
protocol isn't changing much.

I can appreciate that. RTMP is one of the protocols that are the 
trickiest to set up even in our internal testing environment, and we 
*are* building a product for monitoring it.
