Could you please post the linker command line?

You could try
export LDFLAGS=-lX11
and then run configure;make again.

Please let us know how this works. It might be that we are missing
an explicit -lX11 somewhere and rely on fltkconfig --ldflags to add
it - which may not be sufficient in some cases.
