I've been doing this for 10+ years and the only way I've found to
remotely come close to an accurate price is to itemize. Ignore
everthing else - the numbers in the end will clue you in.

For example:

Break your work down into 3 or 4 discreet types.

~~ Web pages ~~~
Simple splash page = 3 hours
Informational page = 6 hours
Simple database backed page = 10 hours
Complex database backed page = 20 hours

(create your own hour basis but these are pretty accurate for me)

~~~ Artwork ~~~
10 images of logo work = 5 hours
20 = 15 hours (not linear)
~~~ Database backend ~~~
10 table backend, design 2 hours per table = 20 hours
20 table backend, 3 hours per table = 60 hours (relationships create complexity)

~~~ Business backend logic ~~~
Each business rule = 1 hour
40 business rules = 40 hours
Do this for every task type, create guestimated hours and total them up.
Take this itemized list to your client. It represents PROOF of your
quote. From there you can fudge on the hourly rate but not the time it
will take.
