If you're not seeing any errors in FF (in the javascript console) then try the DOM Inspector to make sure you're div is actually in the document's DOM. If that is the case, then you're problem is in the various attribute/style values. That is... your approach to adding the div isn't the problem.. it's that you're choice of visual attributes that make it ineffectual or invisible.
