Drupal is the equivalent of MS' Passport, which is still trying to gain
acceptance in the developer world, is essentially a central profile
repository.

Few I know trust Passport and fewer would trust Drupal. Of all the companies
who might make a go of this Google Profile has the best chance. I would
venture that we all have some data being stored by Google at this very
moment. Do you trust Google? I must as I have quite a bit of personal data
stored there.

As to your original problem - X domain auth, what about a server side
website repurposing service? One logs into www.qrs.com which then sends
requests to both www.abc.com and www.xyz.com. Responses to both would be
streamed through a server process, link/form urls rewritten to direct
traffic through qrs.com. You'd pretty much be doing something similar to
phishing but if you owned the underlying domains... whose to complain?
