How does browser handle downloading of files

Hi,

I would like to know if there is some RFC or tutorial for understanding how browsers handle downloading of content - ie,

a. If browser starts from top to bottom, what happens when an image is encountered, a css file is encountered or a js file is encountered.
b. Will browser stop further download till included files get downloaded or
c. Are their downloads managed separately?
d. What happens when browser hasn't completed downloading the included js file and has moved on till the bottom of the page?
e. What's the behaviour if iframes are included?
