faster link selection

Hello, I was wondering if it was possible to have a faster way of selecting links within a text browser like elinks/lynx/w3m. Currently I use arrows or tabs to go to the specific link and hit enter, this is slow. It'd be for example quicker if all links were automatically prefixed with a number so when hitting the numbers (01, 56) it would automatically select the link. There was a firefox addon for 1.5 or 2 that did something like this. Is this already possible with elinks, and if so how Can this be programmed with lua script?
