Scott, another Role Change :)
A few years ago, with a friend from Spain
(the founder of EthnoBeat newsgroup), and another
one from Norway, we co-founded a site called EthnoBass -
short for Ethnic dBase
The idea was to create an educational data base of
Ethnic Music from all over the world, region by region.
A base containing history, progressions, cultural aspects
of the music, influences on the music, introductions to
musicians, interviews, sound samples, maps, etc.
My contribution
In another life I was a Luthier
I play not, but love all music
As a musicologist my specialties are
the music of the Rroma Peoples [the Gypsies]
with whom I am heavily involved
and their influence on other forms of music through history
and the impact of the Ottoman Empire,
specifically the Janessaries,
and their influence on European and world music
Sadly work loads caused me to loose contact with my friends
and with EthnoBass
I have recently heard from Spain that Tim, our Norwegian
cohort has gone off line and so has the EthnoBass site.
Whether we can retrieve the info it contained or not
remains a mystery. A Google Search for EthnoBass
(look at archived materials) will give you an idea of the
depth we had achieved.
Notice the number of sites that had linked to EthnoBass
We want to try and bring EthnoBass back / start again
- The dynamic format of Envolution is ideal
- The multi-language feature of Envolution is ideal
- The "Our Network" Block is super ideal for locating all of the
Ethnic areas we have in the dBase, and would be even better
if we could use larger maps with mouse overs.
- the inter activity is ideal for this type of site
- the forums feature is ideal as a discussion area
What do we need?
- Developers support to help create this type of international
educational resource
- A donated home for the site with an eye to user donations
to help pay for same in the long run
