Since there are two views on how PN development & release should move
forward, and the current "walk-out" is certainly not ideal for either
view, I'd like to propose a slightly different organisation for PN
in the future.

Basically, what I have in mind is a 2-speed approach :

1) development of .8 moves ahead, and continues towards the 1.0 vision
with reasonable (for development) steps. This would attract mainly the
development community and early adopters - knowing well that
intermediate versions are not guaranteed to be of full production
quality (= alpha code).

2) official release management is headed by a separate team (including
project manager), taking into account the requirements for stability
and support that have come to be expected of PN by many of the user
community. This would attract mainly the "stable" user & support
community, and that team would effectively decide what to release when
to "the general public", so to speak.

Rather similar to the way Linux development & release/distribution is
handled by different people, but still manages to stay a single core
product.

Now for this to work, this would obviously require some reconciliation
effort from both sides of the recent "struggle", but it would provide
both "communities" with what they'd want most without endangering the
future of Postnuke (and make me a much happier man at the same time).

How this should be set up in practice would be to be discussed between
the old, current (& future) management, of course, but I don't see why
e.g. Harry couldn't fill the release management seat, and some other
PN "old-timer" would fill the development management seat. Both would
have their priorities straight, and would work together to move
Postnuke to the best possible future for *all* concerned.

The current *.postnuke.com and international sites would remain as the
primary focus of "release" versions of PN, and the developer.* (or
whatever) sites would be expanded to offer better support for core/module/

block/theme people working on the current "development" version of PN,
with adequate cross-linking between all.

CVS might stay as it is, with PostNuke_71 branch and MAIN branch, or
(probably better), there could be a separate directory for the current
"release" version and for the current "development" version.

I only hope that the old/current/future management people can come to
an understanding like this...
