Basically, since we want to archive MA dissertations, and these will most likely have a GIS or 3D studio max component, I'm trying to setup eprints in conjunction with MapServer (http://mapserver.gis.umn.edu/). MapServer can serve ESRI shapefiles and also has a nifty associated package called MapLab (http://www.maptools.org/maplab/index.phtml) that makes it easy to build online GIS maps. Since I need the scripting language PHP, I'm running into problems trying to install apache (ver 1.3xx) with perl as a DSO module, and although eprints installs fine, it won't let apache run. Turthfully, I know basically nothing about perl and mod_perl, yes, I am a php scripter, and it's shockingly discouraging enough just installing mod_perl. Do you know of any other servers trying to serve data other than the pdf documents themselves? I was planning on using the external link feature in the archive to link to MapServer and the associated GIS files, anybody else in your knowledge try something like this? If you have any ideas, or could forward this msg to your eprints server, that would be a great help! Thanks Kepa
