Multiple httpd instances?

Hi,

I'm using mod_fastcgi with Apache2. In the httpd.conf I specify
1 fcgi process to load. However, when I start Apache, I see 7
instances of httpd running. I'm not sure if it's because I'm using
fcgi or it's the way Apache works?
