Thanks to all who replied! Andrew, your suggestion did the trick. I had
to do "xhost +" and set
the DISPLAY environment variable in my fastCGI application with "
-initial-env DISPLAY=:0.0"
as a parameter to FastCgiServer. Thanks again!

I would guess you will probably have to use a xhost + ( or better xhost
+<ip-address of machine> ). You may also have to set a display for the
FastCGI Process.
