mod_fastcgi-2.4.2 with Apache2

I'm trying to build mod_fastcgi-2.4.2 with Apache2 on 32-bit and 64- 
bit linux boxes, but neither is working.

Copying the Makefile.AP to Makefile and running make does not create  
a mod_fastcgi.so

apxs -o mod_fastcgi.so -c *.c also does not.

Is this release of mod_fastcgi broken, or am I?
