child processes

Hi, I have a static fastcgi application (in perl) that creates child processes. How to terminate these child-processes automatically when apache stops ? When I compile apache2+mod_fastcgi (statically linked) by myself this works automatically. If I use the debian packages for apache2 and mod_fastcgi, this does not work. The cildprocesses remain after apache has been stoppen. Anyone an idea why ? why mod_fastcgi from the debian-package behaves differend ?
