All the list owner need to is include a reply-to address.

In most lists, the original authors' email address is suppressed so that 
spam harvesting is avoided and original sender privacy is (somewhat) 
maintained.

I don't know what all the attitude is about, but arguably it's their 
list and they can set it up as they wish.

I find that the need to participate isn't all that often, so it's a 
minor inconvenience on my end; maybe not so for others.
