Since noone seems to have access to the official distribution of mod_fastcgi
(that patch has been around for ages, yet it still isn't part of it) and
there's been a mention of unfixed bugs w.r.t. process management, I've
switched to mod_fcgid <http://fastcgi.coremail.cn/>. You might want to have
a look there.
