Have you had any luck with this issue? 

I'm also on a mediatemple server (dv3), and am trying to get movable type to run
with the mod_fcgid feature. And I also get the 500 internal server error with my
test fcgi file.

The only difference is that I don't see the 2nd error you described, but i get
the first.

I can't for the life of me figure it out, so if you had any progress, Please let
me know!
