getting started questions

Hi all,

I've just discovered FastCGI, and I'm quite excited about it.
Unfortunately, I'll be using a language for which there are no
bindings, so I'll have to be speaking the raw protocol.

The protocol itself is quite simple, and doesn't worry me in the
slightest; but dealing with raw Unix sockets could be problematic.
However, my language does have good TCP support. So, my first question
is:

Is it possible to set up Apache's mod_fastcgi to always use TCP
sockets, even on the local machine? How would I do this, and should I
expect a substantial performance penalty for doing so?

Thanks,
- Joe
