Just /very stable/ :-) IMHO it's experiencing a little renaissance from certain crowds looking to break away from mod_*, eg PHP users plugging into lighttpd. Also frameworks like Catalyst (perl) recommend it and I think ruby uses it easily too. For non-Apache web servers it's the lingua franca of how to talk to a dynamic back-end.
