Accessing the raw HttpServletRequest object

Hello,

Is there any way to access the HttpServletRequest object? The 
HttpRequestHashModel has a getRequest parameter, but the expression:

    Request.request

tries to look up a request attribute on the request, and

    Request.getRequest()

doesn't seem to work. I've worked around this by inserting the request 
object as an attribute of itself (called ServletRequest), but I wanted 
to know if there were a more straightforward way to achieve the same goal.
