Implementing URLTemplateLoader and Template Caching

If I implement URLTemplateLoader for a custom template loader that I use through the Configuration .setTemplateLoader, does Template Caching still occur? It appears that as I run a test of like 8 calls through my Configuration getTemplate, I see the the call strace going into my custom URLTemplateLoader each time on each invocation, should it do that if the caching exists?
